As live event, Masters ranks ahead of Super Bowl, World Cup, Olympics

In a new book, The 100 Sporting Events You Must See Live, author Robert Tuchman says the Masters ranks ahead of the Super Bowl, the World Cup and the Olympics.

“This is pure nirvana for players and watchers and akin to an All-Star game,” he says of the Masters. “The Green Jacket is the stuff of legend and the ultimate accomplishment for every professional golfer. There is not a more beautiful setting for an event than Augusta National.”

Tuchman also ranks other golf events. The Ryder Cup is 21st, the British Open 27th, the U.S. Open No.64 and the Presidents Cup 91st. The PGA Championship didn’t make the list.

For perspective, a Cubs game at Wrigley is No.14 and the hot dog eating contest at Nathan’s at Coney Island was No.73.

A New Yorker, Tuchman appeared on the April 4 Chicagoland Golf Show, where he was goaded into admitting that Chicago hot dogs are superior to those at the famous Nathan’s.

He wouldn’t budge on New York pizza, however.

A podcast of that interview can be found at ChicagolandGolf.com. And we recommend the book, you can get it through Amazon at a discount. – Phil Kosin
